Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park is a treasure among Tanzania's tourist attractions. The Serengeti is Tanzania's most frequented and oldest national park. It is highly coveted due to its association with one of the natural wonders of the world, the great wildebeest migration, which it shares with the Masai Mara of Kenya, attracting several visitors annually. The migration of millions of wildebeest in pursuit of fresh water and grazing land is a remarkable spectacle that should not be overlooked. Rent a 4x4 self-drive vehicle and embark on a safari tour to witness this unusual phenomena in Serengeti National Park, Tanzania.

We occasionally advise utilizing one of our skilled native Tanzanian drivers for your journey to the Serengeti, after which you may self-drive for the balance of your holiday in Tanzania. 4x4 Adventures Tanzania  has agreements with several safari lodges in the Serengeti to provide our self-drive clients with game drives utilizing their resident Toyota Land Cruiser, following which clients may continue with their self-drive safari.

Explore Serengeti with

4x4 Adventures Tanzania

The Serengeti encompasses an extensive area of 15,000 square kilometers, with Seronera situated as its core of activity. We advise driving from Arusha to Seronera, the most accessible region of Serengeti National Park, renowned for year-round animal viewing. We inform self-drive clients that the primary road route from Naabi Hill Gate to Serengeti is in poor condition, necessitating reduced driving speeds and heightened caution. Several vehicles have rolled over and overturned on this segment. We do not provide Toyota Rav4s for trips to the Serengeti for the same reason. Only robust Toyota Land Cruisers and Land Rover Defenders can withstand the road conditions in the Serengeti. We were compelled to remove the Land Rover Discoveries from our fleet allocated for travel to the Serengeti. The road conditions are quite severe. We strongly recommend that, as a driver, you accord this stretch the utmost respect

explore ngorongoro

It is important to note that entrance fees for the Ngorongoro Crater must be paid in advance at either Barclays Bank or Exim Bank in Arusha, in contrast to other Tanzania national parks such as Serengeti, Lake Manyara, Arusha, Tarangire, Ruaha, Selous, and Mikumi, where fees can be settled by card at the entrance gates. We can assist you with the advance payment of the Ngorongoro Crater admission fees. Kindly send an email to info@4x4adventures.com Vehicle entry costs for the Ngorongoro Crater area are US$200 per vehicle and US$60 per person for a 24-hour period. While these fees are substantial, they are justified by the exceptional value of the safari experience provided during the visit. What better way to accomplish this in the luxury and flexibility of your own self-drive rental vehicle from us? The Ngorongoro Crater can be adequately viewed as a day excursion from Karatu town, which is a convenient 30-minute drive to the crater entrance gate. The journey from Arusha to the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge Gate can be completed in around three hours on a relatively decent road. Guided trekking is permitted in Ngorongoro, excluding the crater floor. Walking routes are accessible on a safari that links Lake Eyasi to Lake Natron, as well as from Lake Ndutu to Olmoti Crater and Empakaai Highlands.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) encompasses the Ngorongoro Crater, a notable feature in Tanzania's reputation as a premier safari destination. The Ngorongoro Crater region is a distinguished UNESCO World Heritage Site, established in 1979. The wildlife coexists peacefully with native Tanzanians, each doing their everyday activities undisturbed. The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest volcanic caldera globally and maybe the sole site where one can reliably observe the Big Five in a single day. It is unsurprising that numerous visitors flock to the Ngorongoro Crater throughout the year. Experience the remarkable Tanzania safari by renting a self-drive Toyota Land Cruiser from us, allowing you to enjoy this adventure in comfort and elegance.

Lake Manyara National Park is a notable wildlife destination in Tanzania, somewhat compact yet conveniently accessible, situated less than a two-hour drive from our self-drive car rental facility in Arusha. Retrieve your self-drive vehicle from Arusha Airport and, in under two hours, engage in a game drive at Tarangire National Park to observe the diverse fauna, numerous bird species, and the tree-climbing lions that inhabit the area. The wildlife drive routes in Tarangire are clearly delineated and a pleasure to navigate. Self-drive game excursions here will be utterly delightful as your camera continuously captures stunning images of animal and avian species. Numerous opportunities exist for guided bushwalking safaris and nocturnal game drives in your self-drive rental vehicle. Entrance permits to Tarangire National Park are priced at US$45 per individual for a duration of 24 hours. The price for vehicle entry is US$10.

If you enjoy interacting with native tribes throughout your travels, Mto wa Mbu is unparalleled, featuring over 120 Tanzanian tribes and communities. Mto wa Mbu village is situated adjacent to the primary entrance to Tarangire National Park, facilitating easy access for visitors who can engage in walking safaris and rent mountain bikes to explore the village. A visit to Tarangire merits consideration for inclusion in your self-drive safari itineraryRent a self-drive 4x4 vehicle from 4x4 Adventures and visit Tarangire for exceptional game watching and walking safaris. Numerous animals inhabit this area, including substantial herds of elephants.

Tarangire National Park is a renowned location for safaris in Tanzania. Tarangire is situated in the central rift valley, a convenient distance of 100 kilometers and a two-hour drive from Arusha via a well-maintained paved road. The diversion is located at 7 kilometers from the primary Arusha - Dodoma thoroughfare. The majority of visitors to Tarangire travel to observe substantial herds of elephants in their natural environment, along with a significant population of baobab trees that populate Tarangire National Park. Tarangire possesses the second highest concentration of species and fauna, following the Serengeti. The optimal period for wildlife observation is the dry season from June to October, when animals congregate in Tarangire due to its marshes and rivers. From November to May, the majority of wildlife migrates north into the Rift Valley, including the big migration of wildebeest in pursuit of more fertile grazing and water sources. Additionally, a substantial quantity of acacia trees is present here. Rent a self-drive automobile from us to discover the exquisite park, replete with diverse fauna and natural beauty. For those seeking cultural immersion and interaction with native Tanzanian tribes, the opportunity to engage with the Masai as they tend to their livestock will not disappoint. To the southwest reside the Barabaig people. Permits for access to Tarangire National Park are marginally less expensive than those for Serengeti and Ngorongoro, costing US$45 per person every 24 hours. If you prefer walking safaris, most lodges near Tarangire National Park can arrange these, along with night game drives and bush walking safaris.

Rent a self-drive 4x4 vehicle from 4x4 Adventures and visit Tarangire for exceptional game watching and walking safaris. Numerous animals inhabit this area, including substantial herds of elephants.

Although the majority of visitors to Tanzania favor the renowned national parks of Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, the lesser-known Ruaha National Park, located in the southwest, may be the country's best-kept wildlife secret. Ruaha, largely unfamiliar to many safari tourists in Tanzania, is the country's largest national park, encompassing over 40,000 square kilometers. Ruaha harbors Tanzania's greatest populations of hippos and elephants, along with unique antelope species not seen elsewhere in the country. From August to October, the dry season, several elephants can be observed in Ruaha. Upon arrival in Dar es Salaam, collect your self-drive 4x4 rental vehicle from our rental station and immerse yourself in the untamed nature of Ruaha. Due to Ruaha's relative obscurity and lower visitor traffic, it will provide a sense of seclusion and privacy during your safari experience. This is an unconventional safari destination in Tanzania. Ruaha is an ideal destination for enthusiastic birdwatchers, as it has over 580 distinct bird species, including falcons, red-billed hornbills, herons, storks, fish eagles, black-collared lovebirds, and starlings, among others. Rent a self-drive vehicle from us in Dar es Salaam and discover the authentic avian paradise that Ruaha genuinely represents. Permits for admission to Ruaha National Park are priced at US$30 per individual per 24 hours. Ruaha can be visited year-round; however, optimal animal viewing occurs from May to November, while migratory bird species are predominantly present from December to April.
