Lake Mburo was gazetted in 1933 as a controlled hunting area and upgraded to a game reserve in 1963. The park edges are settled by Banyankole Bahima pastoralists who traditionally herd Ankole cattle. The park is notably blessed with over 315 bird species and is probably the best place to view birds in Uganda. The park is home to the largest concentration of zebras in Uganda with an estimate of 5000. There are several campsites you can occupy for adventure safaris in Uganda. Rwenjeru community campsite is located at the edge of the Park on the road to Katengyeto gate. You can go camping for overnights here.
